Summer TBR

Summer is really the only time of year when I can actually sit back, relax, and read for over forty-five minutes at a time and I love it. For most of June I was travelling so I wasn’t able to read much then, but in the past five days, I’ve already read three books. It feels nice to be back on track reading as much as I used to be able to.

Since I have so much time to read, I have a lot of books on my TBR for the summer. Without further ado, here is my TBR for this summer.

Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab

I’ve been dying for this book for ages now (okay it’s only been like a year, but you get the point). I’m so excited to see where Kate and August’s story goes in this one and how it picks up. The ending of This Savage Song was a bit on the cliche side, but I really liked the rest of it, so I’m hoping our Dark Duet won’t disappoint.

The Bone Witch by Rin Chupeco

This book sounds so cool! It’s all about necromancy and death and it’s a dark fantasy,so yes, I’m very excited to read this one. I actually got an ARC of it on NetGalley months ago, but never got around to reading it and then I deleted it by accident, so I just bought it the other day. I really can’t wait to read this one though.

Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller

I have an ARC on Netgalley of this one and I’m really looking forward to reading it. Actually, I don’t know much about this at all, but I do know that it features a gender fluid main character and it’s fantasy. So yes, I’m super excited for this one as well (I’m seriously excited for all the books on this list, so I’ll say that now instead of in every other single description).

Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust

Yet another eARC that I don’t know much about either. All I know about this one is that it’s a dark fairy tale retelling (heck yes! I’ve been waiting for one of these for ages!). Based on the description, it reminds me a lot of what I’m currently writing haha.

Tash Hearts Tolstoy by Kathryn Ormsbee

I’m especially excited for this book because the main character is aromantic asexual and I have yet to read a book with an asexual main character. It’s also centered around the main character’s youtube series that’s a modern spin off of Anna Karenina. Just based off of those two things, I have high hopes.

The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee

Reasons why I cannot wait another second to read this book: it’s set in Victorian times, diverse cast of characters!!!, they travel all throughout Europe, and it’s supposedly a really fun and funny read. I’ve been dying to get my hands on this book for ages now and it’s finally out, so I’ll be reading this ASAP.

Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Everyone has been telling me to read this book for like two years now, so guess what I’m finally doing? Reading this book! I’m even more excited after reading Albertalli’s new book, The Upside of Unrequited. I’ve also had it sitting on my phone with my other ebooks for months now waiting to be read, and now I have the time to read it.

A Crown of Wishes by Roshani Chokshi

I’ve been dying for this book ever since The Star Touched Queen! I’m so ready to dive back into this world. And also, to be able to read Chokshi’s beautiful writing again. I have pretty high hopes, so let’s hope it doesn’t disappoint. Plus, the cover is sooooo gorgeous!

Those are all the books on my physical TBR I plan to read this summer, but there are many more I want to get to that I don’t own. A few of those are When Dimple Met Rishi, The Bone Season, and Goodbye Days.

What’s on your TBR this summer? Is summer the only season you’re ever really able to get reading done? What books have people been pressuring you to read for awhile that you still need to get to? Let me know down below in the comments section!

  1. Ooh, can we just take a moment to appreciate that color aesthetic going on in your first four picks? Gorgeous! I really hope you get to read all of these, because they all seem fantastic! I’m really hoping to read Our Dark Duet and The Bone Witch soon. 🙂 Happy reading!

  2. Yayyyy you’re reading The Bone Witch & Simon VS!!!! I have an ARC of Girls Made of Snow and Glass and I’m excited to start is since (I believe) it’s a snow white retelling with some feminism mixed in *MUCH EXCITE* I hope you end up loving all of these books! <3

  3. I just recently finished Mask of Shadows and really enjoyed it! Simon Vs and GGTVAV are forever favorites of mine. I thought Our Dark Duet was alright, but it was a bit of an underwhelming ending to the duology. Girls Made of Snow & Glass and A Crown of Wishes are on my summer TBR, as well! Happy reading this summer, Adalyn. 🙂
