My Top Ten Favorite Books I’ve Read in the past Year + 1 Year Blogiversary!

I can’t believe I have blogging for a full year now! My first post on June 26, 2016 was of my top ten favorite books. In honor of that, today I’m doing my top ten books I’ve read since I started blogging.

The last year blogging has been so incredible! I have met so many amazing people and learned so much. I cannot wait to see what the next year and the years after that have in store (as cheesy as that sounds…)! I remember the night I set up glitteringreads.com being oh so excited that I was starting a book blog, and now one year later, I still love book blogging more than ever.

Anyway, without further ado, here are my top ten new favorite books in no particular order. And I will admit, it was pretty hard to narrow it down to just two.

Stalking Jack the Ripper

I could rave about this book for hours (not really because that would be really boring, but you get the point)! I love the story and the main character, Audrey Rose, so much! Plus it’s set in Victorian London. I LOVE this book so much, and I cannot wait for the next book.

Crooked Kingdom

Did you really think I wouldn’t put this on my list? This duology is my favorite series of ever and Crooked Kingdom was just soooo good! Also, it broke my heart into a million pieces because the ending is extremely sad and I did not want the series to end. I’m still holding out for more books featuring my favs.

A Darker Shade of Magic

I can’t believe it took me until this year to finally read this book. It was so beautiful and rich with magic. I’m kind of in love with the settings too. Four different alternate Londons? Sign me up! But seriously, this series is amazing and everything about it. THough I do love the setting, I have to admit, the characters are my absolute favorite part.

Now I Rise

This book was such a surprise! But in a good way (well obviously, considering it’s on this list). I enjoyed And I Darken, but didn’t love it. Then I read Now I Rise and I was just blown away. The character development is fantastic and a lot of issues I had in the past book were resolved as well. All in all, this book really surprised me and I absolutely fell in love with it.

Blue Lily, Lily Blue

I would probably include every single book in this series on this list, but that would become really repetitive. So instead, I’m going with my favorite of the four, Blue lily, Lily Blue! The characters, plot, and setting in this story are some of my favorites and the magic (is it considered magic though?) is so complex and wonderful. It’s a very unique series for sure, but an amazing one.

Roseblood

As soon as I heard that there was a Phantom of the Opera retelling coming out last year, I freaked out. Thankfully, Roseblood did not disappoint in the slightest bit! It’s very creepy and eery, but wonderful at the same time.

The Hate U Give

I just finished this two days ago, but wow, this book was amazing. And heartbreaking all at once. It is such an important book because it deals with current issues and is about a teenage black girl who witnesses her best friend being shot by the police and from there finds herself involved in the Black Lives Matter movement. I cannot recommend this book enough.

The Names They Gave Us

This book was so beautiful and also broke my heart. I’m not a huge crier when I read, but this book really made me cry. Not hard, but it did bring some tears. The story was beautiful and heartwarming and I loved the characters so much.

How to Make a Wish

Wow, yet another heartbreaking book. This one features a bisexual main character who falls in love with a biracial lesbian girl all while dealing with a crappy home life and relationship with her mom. It broke my heart, but at the same time it made me so happy. I loved this book so so much and I definitely recommend it to anyone. It’s not just a love story, but also a story about dealing with hard situations at home and family and how it can really affect people.

A List of Cages

Last but not least is another heartbreaker. I think out of all the books I have read in the past year, this one really destroyed me emotionally the most. It’s about two boys, one who is abused by his uncle, and the other who meets him after years of not seeing each other. It’s a story of friendship and acceptance, but also deals with, like I said, child abuse and other heavy topics.

So those were my top ten books I’ve read since I started blogging! I am so excited to continue on blogging for another year, and hopefully many more after it to come.

How long have you been blogging? What are some of your favorite books? Do you often cry while reading? What is one book that you think EVERYBODY should read? Let me know down below!
