Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is: Back to School Freebie. So, I decided to list my ten favorite books that take place in a school, or have scenes in a school. Speaking of school, today is/was my first day, super exciting, yet sad at the same time.
Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins
I love this book, however, I found the sequel to be a bit disappointing. A lot of Rebel Belle takes place at Harper’s private prep school, and it was a fun setting because we don’t get many books like that.
Dear Pen Pal by Heather Vogel Frederick
This was actually the first Mother Daughter Book Club I read. Jess, one of the main characters, gets a scholarship to a local all girls boarding school. The other main characters spend a lot of time at school as well.
Wonder by R.J. Palacio
Wonder is one of my all time favorites, it’s so inspiring, heartbreaking, and heartwarming all at once. Auggie is starting school for the first time in fifth grade at Beecher Prep.
Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
I will admit that Rainbow Rowell’s books aren’t my favorite, but I did enjoy this one despite finding it kind of confusing. Eleanor is starting school at a new high school and finds it hard to fit in, but is able to befriend Park when the two sit next to each other on the bus.
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
Like Eleanor and Park, I enjoyed this one but didn’t love it as much a everyone else seems to. This is one of the few books I’ve read that take place at a college/university and I found that setting to be really interesting and fun to read.
Harry Potter by JK Rowling
How could I not include this series? It’s one of my all time favorites, of course. Hogwarts is my number one on fictional places I want to visit. How fun would it be to go to a wizard boarding school though?
A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro
This book was also set at a boarding school, which I love. Seriously, there needs to be more books set at boarding schools. Jamie is starting school at a new boarding school in Connecticut when a murder takes place and he teams up with Charlotte Holmes to solve it.
Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins
Another boarding school book, but even better, it takes place in Paris! *heart eyes* I love this series so much. It follows Anna who is just starting school in her senior year at an American boarding school in Paris. The setting is the most amazing.
Saint Anything by Sarah Desson
I have yet to read nay of Dessen’s other books, but I read this one last summer and loved it. Sydney has left her private school to start at a public school (notice a pattern of the main character starting a new school) where she befriends the Chatham family.
Scarlett Epstein Hates it Here by Anna Breslaw
This book was hilarious, I love Scarlett’s humor, sarcastic remarks, and obsession with a vampire TV show that I cannot remember the name of. Parts of this took place at Scarlett’s New Jersey high school.
