Ten Amazing Songs to go with Ten Amazing Books

Posted September 20, 2016 by Adalyn in Books, Top Ten Tuesday / 6 Comments

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme/feature hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is: Audio freebie. So, I’m going to chose ten books to go with ten songs. These aren’t necessarily my favorites or least favorites, just songs that I think go well with each book. Is that really a top ten? I don’t know, but it’s listing ten books and ten songs, so it works… I think.
While making this I discovered so many old songs that I used to LOVE. For months all I’ve listened to is Hamilton and In the Heights, but this kind of motivated me to listen to some of the old stuff I used to listen to. I still love Hamilton though, I just want to mix it up a bit now. Finding old music is the best. (Of course I went and listened to Hamilton right after I finished this though… XD). cinderI used to LOVE Florence + the Machine! Anyways, I think this song fits kind of more with the books that come later on in the series as the romances develop. Either way, I think this song is perfect for this series.the-darkest-mindsLike Florence + the Machine, I also used to be obsessed with Bastille. I think the feel of the song really goes along with this series, the first book especially because it’s so dark and this song has a darker feel to it (does that really make any sense, though?).throne-of-glassOkay, but if this song doesn’t make you think of Throne of Glass, I think you’re crazy. This song so perfectly captures this series I feel like, the lyrics fit for the most part and it just feels right. I can’t hear that song without thinking “Throne of glass! Throne of Glass!”.the-young-elites
This song feels dark, and it totally goes along with the darkness of The Young Elites. We have Adelina who is so thirsty for power and battle, and I think this song totally captures it.
city-of-bones
When I first read City of Bones, I was on a road trip and was listening to music, this song mainly. Now I just immediately associate this song and book together. I know Dreams is a cover of a Fleetwood Mac song, but I like this version so much better.
clockwork-angel
I’m not really sure why, but these two just fit together. I think it’s the feel of both of them. Clockwork Angel is about Tessa leaving home and missing her brother while entering the Shadowhunter world, and for some reason I think this song really goes along with that.
miss-peregrines
Jacob being lost on the island then meeting the Peculiars just goes along with this song really well I think. I think the feel, how it starts off slower and gets more upbeat, also works really well with this book, which gets mroe action packed as it goes on.
acotar
Everything about this song just screams ACOTAR to me. To be honest, I think a lot of Halsey’s songs go well with the Sarah J. Maas books. This one especially makes me think of ACOTAR, both lyrics and feel.
this-savage-song
I forgot just how much I love this song. The lyrics don’t necessarily match with This Savage Song, but the feel of it totally does. I also think this book goes along with Renegades and so many others on this list, but Cry Baby especially just has a similar feeling to it.
What are some songs that you associate with some of your favorite books? Also, what are some of your favorite songs?

  1. I love your Halsey + Sarah J. Maas pairings! Castle has always made me think more of Throne of Glass than ACOTAR, but I can definitely see it going both ways. And I’d never thought of Control with Throne of Glass, but it works so well!

Thanks! Castle is actually on my Throne of Glass playlist, but I thought it fit well with ACOTAR too, so I used it here. Control and Throne of Glass is my favorite out of all these though, for sure!

  2. I’ve only just started reading the Throne of Glass series (super late to the party), but I read the first two books last week. Now, I’ll have to listen to that Halsey song! Such a cool take on this weeks top 10 list 🙂

I hope you’re enjoying it! It’s one of my favorites, of course. 😉 Thank you, as well!
